Regarding the Terrorism Knowledge Base (TKB)
The Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT) recently discontinued the maintenance of the Terrorism Knowledge Base (TKB), an on-line resource for information on terrorism incidents, perpetrators of terrorism, and terrorism-related court cases. Although elements of the TKB will be transferred to the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), the incident database is the property of RAND and will not be part of the data migration. START maintains its own database, the Global Terrorism Database (GTD). For more information on the GTD, please visit http://www.start.umd.edu/data/gtd/.
As the transfer of the Terrorism Knowledge Base materials from MIPT to START is a new development, the process of determining and executing the most appropriate course of action to incorporate the TKB materials with the GTD is ongoing. At this time the information from the TKB is not accessible through START, however we recognize the utility of this resource and we look forward to making it available as quickly as possible. We continue to make improvements to the GTD and we plan to launch a major update early next year. Our goal is to make the GTD even more useful than the TKB was. We appreciate your patience during this transition. If you have any questions or feedback regarding either the GTD or the migration of the TKB materials, please feel free to contact us.
