Dr. Satana received her Ph. D. in Political Science from the University of Buffalo (SUNY) before serving as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of International Relations in Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey. She has been a visiting faculty member and research associate at START since 2012, serving as lead investigator on the project One God for All? Fundamentalism and Group Radicalization

The event description states, "Domestic terrorist groups pledging allegiance to and/or brancing out from al-Qaida, such as AQAP (al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula), the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the Haqqani network, where Osama bin Laden started out his career, are on the rise. Dr. Nil Satana will address the evolution and transnationalization of such groups. How and why do these domestic terrorist organizations strategically use religion to recruit militants?"
