Incident Summary:
08/08/2016: Assailants opened fire on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Macchil, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Four people, including an assailant and three BSF personnel, were killed and three security personnel were injured in the ensuing clash. Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was carried out in retaliation for the death of Burhan Wani, an HM leader. Sources also attributed the attack to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Criteria 1

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
