Incident Summary:

12/16/2016: Assailants opened fire on a military base in Nassoumbou, Sahel, Burkina Faso. At least 5 assailants and 12 soldiers were killed and an unknown number of people were injured in the assault. Two soldiers were also reported missing. Ansar al-Islam (Burkina Faso) claimed responsibility for the attack. Sources also attributed the incident to the Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and suspected the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS).
