UMD and UMB presidents to announce strategic national security partnership

LaFree, Braniff participate in “Whistle Stop Tour”

START will join the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Maryland, Baltimore, to announce a strategic national security partnership between the two universities during a press conference at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 13, at the Greenbelt Metro Station (5717 Greenbelt Metro Drive, Greenbelt, MD 20740).

The event is free and open to the public but an RSVP is required (kseabolt@umd.edu).

During the event, University of Maryland, Baltimore President Jay Perman and University of Maryland, College Park President Wallace Loh, joined by University System of Maryland Chancellor Robert Caret, will participate in a “Whistle Stop Tour” on the MARC and METRO trains with national security experts (including START’s Gary LaFree and William Braniff) and higher education officials to announce the new MPowering the State national security collaboration and discuss the opportunity to relocate FBI Headquarters to Maryland.

The event, hosted by Greenbelt Mayor Emmett V. Jordan, highlights the unique opportunity and many transit options for the FBI Headquarters in Greenbelt, Maryland with access to world-class workforce from the entire region.
