Prevention and Protection in an Age of Terror
START's newest course, "Justice for All? Prevention and Protection in an Age of Terror," (BSST 338 A) is already generating buzz among students and faculty at the University of Maryland. Designed to introduce students to the study and practice of counterterrorism, the course will examine terrorism, the terrorist mindset and countermeasures before and after 9/11.
The course will also detail military and criminal justice approaches to countering terrorism, intelligence-led policing, countering terrorism online, target hardening and long-term counterterrorism. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from comparative counterterrorism case studies focusing British responses to homegrown Islamist terrorism and international responses to al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
Led by START senior researcher Jonathan Kennedy, the course will be held this winter semester 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
