| The Extraditables were a group formed by drug traffickers of the Medellín Cartel in order to prevent their extradition to the United States. Colombia's Turbay administration had made an agreement with the United States government to extradite certain cartel leaders for trials in the US legal system. Certain members of both governments at the time preferred that leaders of the cocaine cartels be sent to the United States as opposed to the Colombian judicial system, which was rife with corruption.

| The Colombian government adopted a new constitution in July 1991 with specific prohibition on the extradition of Colombian citizens. Partially as a result of the probation, Pablo Escobar finally surrendered. He escaped from jail a year later and was shot by Colombian police in 1993. By the end of the early 1990s, the Medellín cartel had been effectively dismantled. | |
