| Al-Bara bin Malek Brigades is a specialized cell of suicide bombers within Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's al-Qaeda Organization in the Land of the Two Rivers. The Brigades have launched numerous suicide operations against U.S. and Iraqi government targets and were reportedly responsible for the devastating November 2005 hotel bombings in Jordan that killed almost 60 people.

| In November 2005, al-Bara bin Malek Brigades, operating under Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's terrorist network, were responsible for triple hotel bombings in Amman, Jordan. In a claim of responsibility a spokesman for al-Qaeda Organization in the Land of the Two Rivers said of the attacks: "At this time of alienation, a group of heroes from al-Bara Bin Malek Brigade who love martyrdom and yearn for heaven... (selected the targets) and the time of execution was set as accurately as God willed." The Jordan bombing was unique in that it marked the movement of the Iraqi terrorist insurgency beyond the borders of Iraq. It remains to be seen whether groups such as al-Bara bin Malek Brigades will continue this trend, and perpetrate further attacks abroad. In any case, the group can be considered extremely active in Iraq, with the strong possibility that they will carry out suicide missions in other countries as well. |
