START Co-hosts Capitol Hill Reception
On Thursday, September 14, 2006, START co-hosted "From Science…Security," a presentation and reception arranged in conjunction with the four other U.S. Department of Homeland Security Centers of Excellence.
Taking place in the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill, the featured keynote speaker of the evening, Jay M. Cohen, DHS Under Secretary for Science and Technology, stressed the importance of the Centers of Excellence program. He also recognized the importance of the university community in advancing basic research and in developing and educating the next generation homeland security experts.
The reception's main feature, poster presentations from each of the five DHS Centers of Excellence, showcased the groundbreaking research being conducted at each Center. Members of Congress and their staffs had the opportunity to get a first hand look at the valuable contributions of the forty universities involved in the DHS program.
