Muslim Community Integration: Journey into America

This will be a ‘first of its kind’ in-depth anthropological study conducted based in ethnography with a broad sampling of the diverse cultural landscape that is America. This study will provide an analysis of the health of the United States, revealing either that the Muslim minority exists in a state which reflects the healthy respect for dynamic pluralism which is central to the idea of the United States or it will reveal that this group exists in a context of decreasing tolerance indicating an erosion of this idea. The methodology is intended to draw out the feelings that would not be otherwise expressed in a survey or to community leaders and public officials. The research team will utilize contacts in the communities throughout the United States and gain unique entrée to places, people and views that have previously been inaccessible to standard academic studies and interested government parties. The project will involve interviews with more than 500 individuals.
