01/26/1998: Three suicide bombers crashed a truck through the gates of Sri Lanka's holiest Buddhist temple in Kandy. They blew themselves up, killing eight other people, wounding 23 and sparking ethnic rioting. The bombers were believed to be members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
