Incident Summary:

6/9/1998: The Macheteros bombed a Banco Popular branch in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. There were no casualties but the front of the bank was damaged. After the incident, the Macheteros released a communiqué stating that the bombing was to protest the impending sale of the Puerto Rican Telephone Company to a United States conglomerate.

Additional Information The bomb exploded around 7:00 AM. It is unknown how the Macheteros released their communiqué claiming responsibility for the incident. It is believed that the Macheteros also bombed a Banco Popular branch in Santa Isabel two weeks later (199806240003).
