Incident Summary:

12/26/1998: The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) was blamed for shooting down a United Nations-chartered C-130 transport plane, which was carrying 14 people just outside Huambo in Vila Nova, Angola, a rebel-held area; UNITA neither denied nor confirmed the charge. All 10 passengers and four crew members were killed when the plane hit the ground and burst into flames. The victims included three Angolans, two Russians, one Egyptian, one Cameroonian, one Zambian, and one Namibian.
