07/31/2000: Suspected ethnic Ijaw rebels stormed two oil drilling rigs in an unknown location in Nigeria, taking hostage 165 Shell Oil employees, including 145 Nigerians, seven Americans, five Britons, and several Australian and Lebanese nationals. The hostages were released on August 4, 2000.
