08/12/2000: Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) rebels took four U.S. mountain climbers and a Kyrgyzstan soldier hostage in the Kara-Su Valley in Kyrgyzstan. The solider was killed and the other four hostages escaped on August 18, 2000.
