8/9/2000: Members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) attacked an army road patrol at Periyathampanai village, Vavuniya district, Sri Lanka. The assailants used grenades and mortars against the soldiers, killing at least six soldiers and wounding at least eight.
