1/28/2001: Unidentified gunmen attacked the town of Hato Nuevo, La Guajira department, Colombia. The assailants killed at least ten people and wounded another five. No group claimed responsibility for the incident and it is not clear who perpetrated the attack; the area is inhabited by both right-wing paramilitary squads and leftist guerrillas.
