Incident Summary:

5/10/2001: Six workers with the MEMISA-COPED humanitarian organization were kidnapped by five rebel members of the Forces for the Defense of Democracy (FDD) near Bukeye, in the province of Mukamba, Burundi, and taken into the neighboring country Tanzania. The rebels also took the medicinal supplies the workers had with them. The six workers were later released in Tanzania's Kayogoro region, relatively unharmed.
