10/17/2002: Explosives planted in a tax office failed to detonate in Migliacciaro, Corsica. The attempted bombing occurred a week before Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy was scheduled to arrive. Authorities interpret the incident as a message from separatists to the French government to expedite granting greater autonomy to Corsica. The bomb was one of 14 found throughout the night at various towns in Corsica.
