Incident Summary:

03/29/2003: Five U.S. Marines were killed in a suicide attack at a highway checkpoint north of Najaf, Iraq. Upon reaching the checkpoint, a taxi driver hailed the Marines to the taxi, which exploded after they approached the vehicle. There was no claim of responsibility; it was the first suicide attack on U.S. soldiers since the Iraq War started.
