Incident Summary:
9/12/2004: A suicide bomber was shot and killed in Baghdad, Baghdad province, Iraq. The assailant was attempting to breach a security checkpoint just outside of the Green Zone in a vehicle laden with explosives when national guardsmen opened fire. The Green Zone housed the US embassy and was the seat of the interim government. Tawhid and Jihad claimed responsibility for the incident. This incident occurred at the same time that other sites around Baghdad were being targeted, including Haifa Street and Abu Ghraib prison.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
Criterion 2
There must be evidence of an intention to coerce, intimidate, or convey some other message to a larger audience (or audiences) than the immediate victims.
