Incident Summary:

5/31/2005: Unknown perpetrators shot and killed a farmer (identified by the initials A. M.) in Tariq Ibn-Ziyad, Algeria. It is unknown why the farmer was targeted; however, three years earlier, he was convicted by the Algerian government for supporting terrorism. The assailants, believed to be part of the Islamic insurgency in Algeria, planted an explosive device under a path as they escaped. The bomb detonated, but did not injure any of the Algerian security forces in pursuit.
