Incident Summary:

02/28/2006: Lieutenant General Daham Radi al-Assal, advisor to the Iraqi defense minister, escaped an assassination attempt when a roadside bomb exploded underneath his convoy in the Zayyuna area of Iraq, east of Baghdad. Five of al-Assal's bodyguards were killed and seven others were injured in the attack. The perpetrators were unknown. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
