Additional Information Small cars could still pass over the bridge following the bombing but trucks were forced to detour around it. This may have been an attempt to damage the Iraqi economy, force Kurdish vehicle traffic to detour through Diyala (Governorate)(where it could be attacked), and/or slow the movement of American and Iraqi ground forces to northern Iraq. Reconstruction began on June 19 and an additional detour was opened on June 26.
