Incident Summary:
10/31/2011: Approximately 15 assailants forcefully entered an office of a private construction company and abducted 15 employees by gun-point near Balthar Ghat, Jamui, Bihar, India. According to police, the hostages were taken to a 7-8 kilometer stretch of mountainous terrain between Jamui and Giridih in Jharkhand. The hostages were released on November 5, 2011. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources suspected that the attack was carried out by the Communist Party of India - Maoist (CPI-Maoist).

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators. For example, a bomb that exploded in a building would be counted as a success even if it did not, for example, succeed in bringing the building down or inducing government repression.
