Incident Summary:

07/01/2012: Assailants shot and threw grenades at churchgoers of the Africa Inland Church in Garissa city, North Eastern province, Kenya. The attackers also shot and killed two police officers before stealing their rifles and firing into the congregation. This was one of two related attacks on churches in the area on this day. At least 18 people were killed and at least 66 others were injured across both attacks. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that the attack was meant to punish people who did not practice the Islamic faith.
