Incident Summary:
07/21/2013: Assailants attacked the Taji prison in Taji town, Saladin governorate, Iraq. The attack, which lasted through the night, employed suicide bombers and explosives-laden vehicles, as well as mortar rounds and rocket-propelled grenades. At least 22 people, including three assailants, were killed and an unknown number of people were wounded. This was one of two prisons attacked in Iraq on this day. Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for these incidents.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack

Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators.
