09/28/2013: Assailants opened fire on a police patrol in Arteche town, Eastern Samar province, Philippines. At least three officers, including Alberto Ayad, the police chief, were killed in the assault. No group claimed responsibility; however, authorities attributed the attack to the New People's Army (NPA).
