Incident Summary:

06/12/2014: Assailants abducted Gil-Ad Shaer, Naftali Fraenkel, and Eyal Yifrah, all teenagers from Israel, in Gush Etzion area, West Bank, West Bank and Gaza Strip. The bodies of Fraenkel, a dual Israeli-United States (US) citizen, Shaer, and Yifrah were discovered on June 30, 2014. Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Additional Information Other groups, including Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), and Dawlat al-Islam, also claimed responsibility for the attack. Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade stated that the boys would only be returned in exchange for the release of thousands of prisoners. Separately, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) distributed a pamphlet in its name stating that it kidnapped the boys to support Palestinian detainees as well as to avenge its dead comrades. Alternatively, Dawlat al-Islam stated that they had kidnapped the boys in retribution for Israel killing three group members several months prior.
