Incident Summary:

05/09/2015: Assailants detonated explosives-laden vehicles and opened fire on Al Khalis Prison in Diyala governorate, Iraq. At least 36 people were killed and 14 people were injured in the raid; the victims included inmates and guards. In addition, approximately 40 prisoners were released or escaped. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the incident.
