Incident Summary:

08/23/2015: Assailants detonated a large quantity of explosive material inside and around the Baal Shamin Temple in Palmyra city, Homs governorate, Syria. There were no reported casualties; however, the temple was destroyed in the blast. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility and stated that they attacked the temple because they viewed shrines as idolatry.
