Incident Summary:

02/23/2017: Assailants opened fire on a Rashtriya Rifles (RR) patrol in Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Three soldiers and one civilian were killed and five soldiers were injured in the attack and ensuing clash. Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was carried out in response to General Bipin Rawat's statement urging citizens to stop facilitating the escape of armed group members during military operations. Sources also attributed the attack to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
