05/31/2017: A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden sewage tanker near Zanbaq Square in Wazir Akbar Khan, Kabul, Afghanistan. In addition to the assailant, at least 92 people were killed and an additional 491 people, including 11 United States citizens, were injured in the blast. The Khorasan Chapter of the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the incident, though sources doubted the veracity of this claim. Sources also attributed the attack to the Haqqani Network, which denied involvement.
