12/25/2017: Assailants abducted two Swedish Shia Kurds in Kirkuk, Iraq. The hostages were executed on an unspecified date. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was carried out in retaliation for Kirkuk being in Shia control and because the victims were allegedly members of a Shia militia.
