Incident Summary:
06/03/2018: Assailants attempted to infiltrate and attack Ash Shafah village in Deir ez-Zor, Syria. This was one of two coordinated incidents along the same road in Albu Kamal district on this date. At least 71 people, including 45 pro-government fighters and 26 assailants, were killed and an unknown number of other people were injured across both clashes. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources attributed the attacks to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
Criterion 2
There must be evidence of an intention to coerce, intimidate, or convey some other message to a larger audience (or audiences) than the immediate victims. Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
