Incident Summary:
06/14/2018: Assailants abducted Aurangzeb, a soldier, from Kalampora, Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Aurangzeb was killed and his body was discovered later that evening. Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was carried out in response to the killing of Wasim Shah, an HM member, in October 2017. Sources also suspected that the victim was targeted because he was a close aide to a military officer who led a security operation on April 30, 2018 that resulted in the killing of Sameer Tiger, another HM member. Sources also attributed the attack to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Criteria
Criteria 1

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators. For example, a bomb that exploded in a building would be counted as a success even if it did not, for example, succeed in bringing the building down or inducing government repression.
