Incident Summary:
04/24/2019: An assailant set fire to the house of a prominent real estate developer in La Jolla, San Diego, California, United States. There were no reported casualties in the attack, but the door of the house was damaged. This was one of two related attacks carried out by the assailant on this day. Daniel Hector Mackinnon was arrested the next day when he attempted to return to the United States from Mexico. Sources noted that the developer was targeted "based on the nature of the business and/or their professional/political ties.” Mackinnon plead guilty to one count of malicious damage to building by means of fire and was sentenced to seven years in prison for “politically motivated arsons.”

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
