Incident Summary:
06/22/2019: An assailant, identified as the victim's bodyguard, opened fire on Gen. Seare Mekonnen in Addis Ababa city, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Mekonnen, the chief of the staff of the national security forces, and retired Major General Gezai Abera were killed in the assault. This was one of four coordinated attacks in an attempted coup to overthrow the Amhara government on the same day. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, sources attributed the attack to a militia led by security chief Asaminew Tsige.

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
