Incident Summary:

05/18/2020: Assailants tampered with the brakes on the vehicle of prominent human rights lawyer Aiman Omarova in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Omarova was able to escape the car before it caught fire. She also noted that legal documents were stolen from her car. No group claimed responsibility for the incident, which Omarova said was related to her work exposing Muslim reeducation camps in China. In the previous year, Omarova had discovered a dead cat hung on her gate and contended that her dog was poisoned - both incidents were thought to be related to her job activities as well.
