Incident Summary:
12/07/2020: Assailants detonated an explosive device targeting an electricity pylon between Qaim and Hadithah, Al Anbar, Iraq. There were no reported casualties, but the pylon was damaged in the blast. This was one of eight related attacks targeting pylons in the area on this date. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the incident and stated that the attack was part of a broader effort to attack vital economic targets in Iraq. The group stated that these attacks were intended to pressure the government to deploy security forces to the targeted sites, which would consequently deplete security personnel.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
