Incident Summary:
12/20/2020: Assailants fired rockets targeting a residential complex near the United States embassy in the Green Zone, Baghdad, Iraq. Some of the rockets were intercepted by Iraqi security forces. There were no reported casualties, though buildings and cars were damaged in the attack. This was one of two related attacks targeting the embassy on this date. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, sources attributed the attack to Iran-backed militias.

Criteria 1

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack. For example, in a typical successful bombing, the bomb detonates and destroys property and/or kills individuals, whereas an unsuccessful bombing is one in which the bomb is discovered and defused or detonates early and kills the perpetrators. Success is not judged in terms of the larger goals of the perpetrators.
