On April 2nd, Garissa University College in Garissa, Kenya was attacked by Somali gunman with ties to al-Shabaab. With about 148 students killed, this was the worst terrorist attack the country has experienced in over 17 years. According to research conducted at the University of Maryland summarized in this article, the rate of terrorist attacks on schools is at its highest point in over 40 years.
