New UMD Course: Terrorism Analysis for Intelligence Analysts

START is offering a new course during the University of Maryland's 2008 Summer Session: Terrorism Analysis for Intelligence Analysts (course number: BSOS388). Taught by START Post-Doctoral Fellow, Dr. Rik Legault, the course will survey a variety of quantitative methodologies that can be used in the development of actionable intelligence regarding terrorism and terrorists based on the analysis of open source materials. The course will draw heavily from statistical models in the behavioral and social sciences and will help students develop the ability to undertake basic analysis as well as critical use of complex scientific studies.

Students will learn and apply quantitative analytical tools to perform basic research on open source data developed by the START Center. The course will meet Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 4:00-7:00pm from June 23, 2008, through July 11, 2008. The course is open to all interested students and is listed in Testudo, the University of Maryland's course registration system, under the BSOS summer offerings.
