02/16/2008: Assailants abducted Jere Van Dyk, an American journalist, along with three Afghan civilians at an unknown location near the Afghan border in Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Pakistan. Van Dyk was released after 45 days of captivity on April 2, 2008; the fate of the remaining three hostages is unknown. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources attributed the attack to the Taliban.
