Incident Summary:

07/17/2009: On Friday night, in Akhund, Nangarhar, Afghanistan, assailants attempted to raid the residence of a police officer but were intercepted by local residents. The assailants kidnapped a civilian upon their retreat. Three assailants were killed during the attack and 11 others were captured. The status of the hostage is unknown. No group claimed responsibility, although it was widely believed the Taliban was responsible.
