01/06/2014: A suicide bomber attempted to detonate an explosives-laden vest near a police checkpoint in Khannesin district, Helmand province, Afghanistan. The assailant, who was a ten-year-old girl, was detained before the vest could detonate. No group claimed responsibility for the incident; however, officials attributed the attack to the Taliban. The assailant's brother is thought to be a prominent Taliban commander.
