Incident Summary:

01/03/2015: Assailants attacked residents in Gharib village, Kirkuk, Iraq. This was one of two similar raids on villages in the area on the same day. There were no reported casualties, although at least 170 young people from the al-Jubur tribe were kidnapped in both attacks and taken to a prison in Hawija district. At least 162 victims were later released but the outcome for the remaining eight hostages is unknown. No group claimed responsibility for the incidents; however, sources attributed the attacks to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), stating that the victims were accused of burning an ISIL flag.
