09/18/2018: Assailants abducted Father Pierluigi Maccalli from his residence in Bomanga, Tillaberi, Niger. Maccalli, a Society of African Missions (SMA) priest, was released on October 8, 2020. No group claimed responsibility; however, sources suspected the involvement of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS).
