Incident Summary:

4/25/1997: An improvised explosive device hidden under railway tracks detonated as a passenger train passed over it near Algiers, Algiers province, Algeria. At least 21 people were killed and another 20 were injured in the explosion that destroyed two passenger cars. No group claimed responsibility; however, officials blame Muslim rebels. They believe the attack was intended to disrupt upcoming elections.
