Incident Summary:

10/16/1998: Two armed men abducted Rolando Canes, and owner of fishing trawlers, in Naga, Philippines. The assailants, aboard two motorboats, stopped Canes' pumpboat near a wharf in Naga and took Canes captive. Canes's fate was unknown. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) was suspected of carrying out this kidnapping. It was further suspected that the kidnapping was a case of mistaken identity and that the assailants were targeting another well-known businessman in the area.
